Researching the appeal of music videos targeting audiences ages 17-18

  • In class we wrote down names of music videos on ominously
  • Picked a few videos of analyse
1st Video - "STYLE" By Taylor Swift:

  • Stylish elements - arty, atheticly pleasing - offer something cool to look at
  • Cool shot transitions - rock face dissolving with broken glass
  • Relationship narrative - in lyrics and visuals - teen girl appeal?
  • Lots of beauty shots - shows make up style - teen girl is focused on beauty and fashion?
2nd Video - "UPTOWN FUNK" By Mark Ronson:

  • Dance routines - admire the dance moves as an audience with the moon walk - appealing to the audience wanting to learn the moves
  • Look down into camera and tilts used - old school feel and makes audience feel involved like they are in the middle of the dance
  • Humorous in some parts - hair salon and rollers, over stylised choreography (silly)
3rd Video - "GIBERISH" By Max:

  • Very clever - had reverse and formed shots with the cuts, smoke effects with projections making it very visually interesting and showing technical use well
  • Innovative stuff in video - reflects band itself and mix of genres  with rap, pop and electric
  • Delay in pale - gibberish audio reflects and appeal in dance routines, enhanced cut editing effects
