Evaluation Task 3 : What did you gain and have learned from your audience feedback?

The journey and ideas of how the planning and process of the development of my music video will be presented in this evaluation task, and how we improved on our ideas from the feedback we received.

PRESENTING MY IDEAS TO THE CLASS:

At the start of my A2 course year in September, I presented three overall ideas to the class which in the end received some feedback on how each idea could work and also what would need to improve in order to take it forward and work on the idea.

The key feedback presented was:
  • Practicality of the set - first idea
  • Hard to find location - second idea
  • Might not have time to shoot all in one day - first idea
  • Not interesting enough - third idea
  • Too expensive to fund initially - second idea
  • Not clear enough or in dept - first idea
  • Will need a lot of actors for filming - second idea

After we picked our best idea, we had to pitch it to Luke and take it forward. Below is the presentation we showed to Luke.

PITCHING OUR IDEAS TO LUKE:

After pitching our ideas and plans to the class and checked over by our teacher, we then pitched them to Luke in a small presentation shown below:

The main feedback and key aspects which we received were:
  • It was going to be difficult to film in only one day
  • The narrative had to be bigger
  • Narrative was too complicated so needed to be simplified
  • Would be hard to film and therefore plan
  • Had to focus more on main plan and idea
Due to this feedback and also pitching to Luke, we used this to improve and change a few things with our initial ideas. One main thing we changed was the protagonist image of our video with the boxer training for a bit fight match in the end which would match with the high energetic track. This therefore replaced the initial idea of a character being fed up with his job due to it being way too complicated to portray on film so decided to keep it more clear and simple for the audience to understand.

FEEDBACK ON THE WEBSITE AND LOGO:

After finishing our website and logo designs for our overall product with our music video, we then showed all the designs to our class mates and received some good feedback on how to improve on our products

The feedback on the logo was overall quite positive apart from some selected fonts which needed to be changed to fit with the logo when designing the website and digipak. For the website the feedback was helpful due to being able to see the errors we had made to then improve to make the final design look as professional and dramatic as possible.

FEEDBACK ON THE TESTSHOOT:

After fully developing on the planning and our overall idea of our music video, we then had the task of making a test shoot video which would then give us a good insight and overlook on what we can avoid for the final shooting day.

Feedback of the testshoot:
  • Needs more slow motion shots
  • The band needs more rehearsal due to not linked enough with track
  • The narrative needs to be clearer
  • Need more of an interesting ending for the narrative
  • More low key lighting is needed in shots
  • More energy is needed in the shots to link with track more
By presenting the test shoot video to the class was very helpful due to gaining an input from a different perspective which as a result helped us to avoid issues for the final product. From the feedback we learned that we needed to add many more visually interesting and different elements for the final video.

FINALLY THE FOCUS GROUP PROCESS:

Our teacher Phil sorted out a focus group for us to present our final products and gain some feedback from a different type of audience. Overall the thought our products were very good and we gained mainly positive feedback with only some improvements to be made.

Key Feedback:
  • Some of the font styles used on the website have to be changed so that they are all the same to create a neater and clearer look
  • Need to add an image of the band onto the digipak covers to present the band image more clearly
This is the final version of our digipak with the improvements made from the feedback we gained
