Evaluation Task 3 : What did you gain and have learned from your audience feedback?
The journey and ideas of how the planning and process of the development of my music video will be presented in this evaluation task, and how we improved on our ideas from the feedback we received.
PRESENTING MY IDEAS TO THE CLASS:
The key feedback presented was:
- Practicality of the set - first idea
- Hard to find location - second idea
- Might not have time to shoot all in one day - first idea
- Not interesting enough - third idea
- Too expensive to fund initially - second idea
- Not clear enough or in dept - first idea
- Will need a lot of actors for filming - second idea
PITCHING OUR IDEAS TO LUKE:
After pitching our ideas and plans to the class and checked over by our teacher, we then pitched them to Luke in a small presentation shown below:
The main feedback and key aspects which we received were:
- It was going to be difficult to film in only one day
- The narrative had to be bigger
- Narrative was too complicated so needed to be simplified
- Would be hard to film and therefore plan
- Had to focus more on main plan and idea
Due to this feedback and also pitching to Luke, we used this to improve and change a few things with our initial ideas. One main thing we changed was the protagonist image of our video with the boxer training for a bit fight match in the end which would match with the high energetic track. This therefore replaced the initial idea of a character being fed up with his job due to it being way too complicated to portray on film so decided to keep it more clear and simple for the audience to understand.
FEEDBACK ON THE WEBSITE AND LOGO:
The feedback on the logo was overall quite positive apart from some selected fonts which needed to be changed to fit with the logo when designing the website and digipak. For the website the feedback was helpful due to being able to see the errors we had made to then improve to make the final design look as professional and dramatic as possible.
After fully developing on the planning and our overall idea of our music video, we then had the task of making a test shoot video which would then give us a good insight and overlook on what we can avoid for the final shooting day.
Feedback of the testshoot:
- Needs more slow motion shots
- The band needs more rehearsal due to not linked enough with track
- The narrative needs to be clearer
- Need more of an interesting ending for the narrative
- More low key lighting is needed in shots
- More energy is needed in the shots to link with track more
By presenting the test shoot video to the class was very helpful due to gaining an input from a different perspective which as a result helped us to avoid issues for the final product. From the feedback we learned that we needed to add many more visually interesting and different elements for the final video.
FINALLY THE FOCUS GROUP PROCESS:
Our teacher Phil sorted out a focus group for us to present our final products and gain some feedback from a different type of audience. Overall the thought our products were very good and we gained mainly positive feedback with only some improvements to be made.
Key Feedback:
- Some of the font styles used on the website have to be changed so that they are all the same to create a neater and clearer look
- Need to add an image of the band onto the digipak covers to present the band image more clearly
This is the final version of our digipak with the improvements made from the feedback we gained

Presenting to Focus Group
In todays lesson Phil sorted out a focus group arrangement consisting of a group of A1 Media students for us to present our products to and therefore gain some more input and feedback from a different group of audience who had never seen our products before nor know what to expect. For the preparation of our presentation, Jacky had printed out 3 digipak examples to give out to the group allowing them to have a close up clear view of the product, while I had uploaded the finished edited video of the music video onto YouTube ready to watch, and finally Anna finishing off final touches and improvements of the website, all ready to be shown and presented.
The first product we showed first was the digipak, where we asked neutral open questions such as (What do you like about this product and are there any improvements you would make and if so what?) and also (What kind of genre would you believe this product would be linked too?). This helped us to see if we had achieved a clear representation of what we had aimed for with our products. In order to gain and remember all the feedback we decided to use a voice recorder rather than a camera as was less intimidation for the group to talk honestly about their views and opinions. The feedback we received for the digipak was that it would be visually more appealing and also helpful for the audience to have more individual pictures of the actual band/artist on the inside cover of the digipak to show their image better. Also they thought the overall design matched very well with the genre of indie/rock and was easily recognizable.
For the website, the feedback was also very positive and had a good reaction from the focus group, however they did point out some useful mistakes we had missed and therefore could improve on. They said we needed to change the font of the introduction of the band at the top of the website due to being hard to read on screen on the ABOUT page - the suggestion was to use either a completely different font or use capital letters. However, for the positives they agreed that the website design had a very professional feel to it and therefore presented the image of our band very well to the target audience.
Finally we showed the music video of our band "I'm so sorry". The main positive reaction we received was the narrative part of the video which was the boxing which came as a real highlight to the product. However, they did comment that the lip syncing was a tad off in some parts of the video from which we agreed but sadly was unable to change due to being already uploaded and downloaded on YouTube.
Overall the feedback we had received from the focus group was very useful due to allowing us to fix any mistakes we had missed and also improve some parts of our products. Afterwards we improved on the elements that were pointed out, such as adding a photo of the band onto the digipak cover and changing the font of the description of the band on the website.

Overall feedback on our products
To get an insight of how the audience may react and feel towards our products we presented them each to the class and listened to their and also my teachers feedback on their opinions of how it looks. This was a very important process as it allowed us to see mistakes we had missed and also enable us to be able to improve other aspects to make it as good as it could be.
LOGO:
As you can see from the clip, after presented our logo to our classmates we gained some good feedback on what they liked and how it can be improved and therefore changed. The logo would be on the front cover of the digipak and homepage of the main website wo was very important to get correct due to representing the overall image of the artist/band, so the feedback we gained was very important for our overall grade. The feed back we gained from our classmates on the logo was mostly very positive with a few improvements:
- The logo is very suitable and matches the genre very well with indie/rock due to the colour scheme and simplistic look to it
- The font and texture we had chosen matched with image of the band/artist with a very macho, tough image
- Our teacher (Phil) suggested that we should continue using the silvery lines design with the writing of the name of the band/album as would link nicely to make a professional looking overall product
- Also one of our classmates (Alex) offered an improvement we could make regarding the lines which were too thin and therefore could be made thicker on the design.
WEBSITE:
Feedback from Phil: During lesson, Phil - our Media teacher looked at my website and suggested how could I improve it.
Here are some key points that I've written down about his feedback:
- I should add another page STORE, where I would include list (+ photos) of merchandise items , including two T-shirts (available in two colours - black and white) with the logo, hoodie, poster and album (CD, and Vinyl, signed copies)
- Add album front cover and behind the scenes photos to the news feed on the homepage
- Add more different photos to the slide show on the GALLERY page
- Add a back-story of the band (description of the band on the ABOUT page )
- Make the gaps between the LATEST news headline, news feed and logo smaller
- News feed post about new album should contain a button , which says BUY NOW, instead of READ MORE
- Check the spelling of the words (such as Birmingham)
- In terms of dates, place dates, places and BUY NOW button in line , so it would look more neat.
Feedback from classmates:
I have also asked my classmates to give their opinion regarding the website that I've created .
Again, I have received mostly positive feedback - all of them really liked the logo, and Perry , one of y classmates noted that the website is "clean and easy to navigate". Alex suggested that I should write a small paragraph about each of the members of the band under the manes, and Perry reminded me that i need to write their surnames next to their names. I asked them about write about the creation of the band - and they agreed that t is a good idea. Alex said that it would be really interesting to see behind the scenes photos from the shoot day on a news feed.
Those were some of the opinions, and I would react on their feedback by making slight alterations to the website, such a adding 'behind the scenes' photos.

Creating the logo desing for our artist
The process of creating the design for our logo started with our research into other band and artists of the same genre, indie/rock, such as Muse and Imagine Dragons. We noticed that most of them have their own original logo and representation of their image allowing them to be well known to their target audience. Looking at this research we realised we needed and strong and noticeable representational logo for our band which would be presented on the website and also our digipak cover which would be very important to include. Sticking with the main colour scheme we used black and white, also linking to the genre, and a neat symmetrical pattern of a phoenix, overall allowing our target audience to be presented with a good clear image of our overall artist (similar to the other well known bands we had researched).
As you can see they have similarly used the colour scheme of black and white with their logo designs which we have used for our own logo design (seen below)
