Casting for the performance element of the video (band members)

After looking at the lyrics and genre of our song we had an idea of the imagery we wanted for the band members to look like and also the main character and boxing element characters as well.

FOR THE BAND MEMEBERS:

• Quite a dark basic image
• All boys
• Look ages between 17-19
• Have a roughly similar image
• Wear dark clothing
• Have some skill and knowledge of the instrument they will be playing
• Can take direction well

FOR THE MAIN CHARACTER AND BOXING ELEMENTS:

• Similar dark image to the band for the lip synching element
• Have some muscle definition to match boxing style look
• Be confident on camera and have the right image to match the tone of the voice of the original track to look as realistic as possible
• Can take direction quickly and easily so don't waste time on the shoot day

Taking all these elements and ideas into account I asked Phil my teach to show a list of the musicians we had at school and send pictures of the boys we could consider for the video. After looking at these in the lesson and discussing the potential of each of the boys I sent an email listing the information and times to cast the performers and see who works well and looks good on camera.

CASTING DAY:

• On the casting day we filmed a small section of each performer to look and analyse their image on camera and how they react to the track we are using
• Also I took into account how they each took direction and listened to us on the day

As you can see there was a mixture of characters on the day which helped us to see visually what we wanted and also needed for our final video
