In our class we were asked to study and research into two different artists and their campaigns made in order to make them as successful as they are for the type of music they produce. I decided to look into the well know, famous American singer "Beyoncé" and the British/indie alternative rock band "Coldplay".
Beyoncé
"Crazy In Love" released with her first debut album in 2003 including the well known rapper artist Jay Z, earning over 170 million views
The song "Baby Boy" was also released in this album earning her a fair share of Grammy awards with over 46 million views
With her marriage to rapper Jay Z following the birth of her daughter "Blue" it influenced her with her third album "I am....Sasha Fierce" in 2008. A self described "modern-day feminist, Beyoncé creates her songs to often be characterized by themes of relationships, love, monogamy and heartbreak, as well as the strength of feminism in sexuality and empowerment with her dynamic and highly choreographed dance performance with her singing allowing her to stand out massively.
On her website Beyoncé, has her upcoming album "Beyoncé" advertised with tour dates and music album release dates with a number of pictures. As well as advertisement for herself as an artist it also has a merchandise page with her number of different fragrances from her collection.
All in all the artist well know as the "Queen B" throughout her career spanning 18 years and still on going to this day, has resulted in selling over 75 million records as a solo artist with also a further 60 million with Destiny's child, making Beyoncé one of the most successful female solo artists of this time.
COLDPLAY
Coldplay is an British indie/alternative rock band formed in 1996 by lead vocalist, Chris Martin and lead guitarist Johnny Buckland, with bassit Guy Berryman and drummer, back-up vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Will Champion joining later. For the start of their career, the band was originally called "Pectoralz" then changed to "Starfish" with finally in 1998 the name "Coldplay" was decided.
The band achieved worldwide success and fame with the release of their hit single "Yellow" in 2000, followed by their debut album released in the same year with "Parachute" which booted the band into stardom and fame with their nomination for the Mercury Prize for their success.
As you can see with both of these album covers, the band choose to use very simple designs with minimal fonts creating a very authentic and vividly fresh image symbolising their music genre type. This simplistic design obviously shows how the band rely on their music and vocal instruments as a band to sell their products for them, without the help of a huge image nor effects with complex art work. As well as their album covers, Coldplay's music videos tend to settle into two main categories, one has a very indie and vivid image of live performance of the band allowing the audience and their viewers to experience the talent of their music first hand through the context of their videos. Alternatively, in some of their other videos it shows their lead singer Chris on some sort of journey travelling at the forefront of the shot in the video. Overall, the bands music videos mainly focus on their music and instrumental talents and lyrics with the storyline not tending to match the video in any sense, keeping a very simple and basic video with no complex drama or effects.
